WINTER TRAINING
The purpose of winter training is to allow athletes, who are not participating in a winter sport, to create a strong base for the upcoming spring track season. I have seen many athletes, including myself, put together a strong winter block of training that culminates in a breakout track season full of personal records. This block of training is meant to prepare you physically and mentally, and it also serves as a great opportunity to learn how to train on your own and hold yourself accountable when the team is not meeting every day. Because there is limited daylight this time of year, we are going to begin our practices on Tuesday and Wednesday when Allie begins, to ensure we can get an adequate workout in and avoid the dangers of running in the dark. We will meet at 2:45 above the gym in our team room. Starting in January, we will add Fridays into the schedule.
As many of the days will include terrible weather, we will sometimes cut the run short and instead do a long circuit in the weight room. However, there will also be days when we need to brave the weather and get the work in outside. For the first month of training, I will lay out a calendar for athletes to follow. We will meet only during the first and second week of December, and then athletes will be expected to continue training on their own through the holidays. This is a great way to learn accountability, to understand how to adjust when traveling, and to realize that it is okay if we need to move a few days around.
RACES
Currently, I have three races on the schedule that athletes can participate in over the winter. These are completely optional, though it is a great way to break up the monotony of training and get the competitive juices flowing. The travel to the meets would be up to the parents and athletes.
December
Tuesdays & Wednesdays at team storage (above the gym)
2:45–4:15 pm
We will only meet the first and second week of December.
January
Tuesdays, Wednesday, Fridays at team storage (above the gym)
Fridays 3:45-5:30 pm
We will be using "Band" app to communicate with parents and athletes.
