DALLAS XC/DISTANCE
DALLAS XC/DISTANCE
AFTER A SUCCESSFUL OUTDOOR TRACK SEASON, WE'RE GOING TO SHIFT GEARS TO SUMMER XC TRAINING. BELOW IS CRITICAL INFORMATION ON HOW SUMMER TRAINING WILL WORK!
Time/Place: Summer practices begin on July 6th. We will meet Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00am-10:00am at Dallas HS baseball fields. We will begin with two days each week, and then slowly add days as we see fit. I will also have some Saturdays where we will meet at Minto Brown in Salem for a long run. This allows us to have a change of scenery outside of Dallas.
What you need: You need to bring your running shoes, water bottle, and a watch to every practice! We will be fighting the heat throughout the summer, and proper hydration is critical to performance and health.
Training Info: I’ve had lots of athletes ask me, what should I be doing for running. I want ALL athletes to take at least two weeks off from running since their last race. Starting the second week of June, I want athletes getting out the door 3-6x each week. The mileage doesn’t have to be anything strict – 20-40min each day is sufficient. If you are a new runner, starting out with a run/walk is great! I will post a training calendar on our team website and on BAND so athletes have a guide for the summer.
Contact Information: We have two forms of communication. Our primary form of communication is BAND. This serves as a day to day updates on practice, meets, etc. We also have a website (www.dhsdragons.com), where we have more general information regarding meet schedule, records, results, etc.
Monmouth Mini Marathon: To start off the summer, we will have an optional road race in Monmouth. It is a 2.6mi downhill race starting at Yeasty Beasty in Monmouth and finishes downtown Independence. Coach Jerry (maybe Bailey) will be there and we will meet at the Praise Church (189 S Monmouth Ave, Monmouth, OR) prior to the warm up.

Physical: As a reminder, athletic physicals are good for 1 year. While we do not need one to participate in Summer Training, it is advisable to take care of this sooner rather than later.
We will be using "Band" app to communicate with parents and athletes. I encourage distance runners who are not on the XC team to join the group!
